Polk County has more than 300 species of migratory and nesting birds, many endangered or threatened species.  Lake Livingston is home to several magnificent bald eagles.

Waterwood Wildlife Trail - Listen and watch for pileated woodpeckers, red headed woodpeckers, white-eyed vireos, great crested flycatchers, Northern Cardinals, Chickadees, and spring and fall migrants. Around the water you may also see White Pelicans in October, and swallows, scissored-tailed flycatchers and Purple Martins in spring and summer.
